(Algona)– A Sioux Falls man was killed in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday in Kossuth county.
The Iowa State Patrol says 60-year-old Edgar Mitchel of Sioux Falls died after his vehicle was struck by a semi-truck just before 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 18 and 140th Avenue east of Algona.
Authorities say a semi tractor-trailer driven by 37-year-old David Wilson of Mountain Lake, Minnesota was westbound on Highway 18 when a garbage truck in front of him stopped to make a left-hand turn. Wilson turned sharply to avoid a collision, jack-knifed the semi, and crossed the center line. That’s when he struck the eastbound Chevy Lumina being driven by Mitchel.
Mitchel was taken to the Algona hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No other injuries were reported.
Both vehicles were totaled.
