(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake police have done their part again this holiday season to help out the less fortunate.
Chief Jon Martyr tells KUOO news his department participated for the second year in the “Shop With A Cop” Program. Under the program, law enforcement officers shop for toys and clothing for less fortunate families identified through Upper Des Moines Opportunity.
Martyr says they took 29 less fortunate children shopping this year. He says that’s nearly double from last year.
Martyr says they apply for funding each year for the event through the Salvation Army’s Special Project Program. Money for that program is donated by local residents.
Martyr thanks the Salvation Army, Upper Des Moines Opportunity and Wal-Mart for their overwhelming support of the program.
