Red Cross To Require Blood Donors Have Photo I-D’s

November 22, 2014

(Undated)– Those who donate blood to the American Red Cross will soon have to abide by a new requirement.

Spokesman Jon Siess of the American Red Cross in St. Paul, Mn. says effective January 1st, blood donors will be required to have a photo I-D. Siess says the mandate is being implemented to ensure donors are properly identified so they can be contacted if need be. He says that would be the case if testing of the blood would turn up something out of the ordinary.

Siess says other requirements for donating blood to the American Red Cross will remain the same: donors must be atleast 17 years of age; weigh atleast 110 pounds and be in good health.

The American Red Cross has bloodmobiles planned for Dickinson county in mid-January.
