(Spirit Lake)– Separate traffic stops over the weekend in Spirit Lake resulted in drug charges against three people.
The first was conducted shortly before 8:00 p.m. Friday when Spirit Lake police pulled over a vehicle in the Great Lakes Mall parking lot for a traffic offense.
Upon further investigation the department’s K9 Unit conducted a search of the vehicle that turned up what’s alleged to be marijuana along with several items of drug paraphernalia.
The driver, 47-year-old Scott Morrow of Spirit Lake, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance…marijuana; prohibited acts; possession of drug paraphernalia and excessive speed. Morrow was booked into the Dickinson county jail.
Spirit Lake police were assisted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
The other stop occurred around 12:30 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Highways nine and 71 and Keokuk Avenue in Spirit Lake.
Upon further investigation officers determined a passenger, 20-year-old Ashley Opheim of Milford, was in possession of drug paraphernalia. Opheim was cited and was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up what’s alleged to be marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The driver, 18-year-old Edward Galbraith of Spencer, was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance; operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated; prohibited acts; possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to have SR-22 Insurance. He was booked into the Dickinson county jail.
