Local Officials Ready For Caucuses

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Dickinson county Democrats and Republicans say they’re ready for this (Mon.) evening’s caucuses.

Denny Perry of Spirit Lake is among those organizing the Dickinson county Democratic Precinct Caucuses. He says Democrats from throughout the county will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Spirit Lake Middle School Multi-Purpose Room. Perry says you’ll be able to declare party affiliation this evening if you aren’t already registered as a Democrat.

Upon arriving, Perry says you’ll be divided into groups, based on the precinct in which you live. Each precinct will meet in separate rooms, where they’ll form viability groups for the candidate they support. They’ll also work on resolutions that will go to the county, district, state and national conventions.

Record attendance is expected at Democratic Caucuses in many parts of Iowa, and Perry feels that will also be the case locally.

While most of the attention is focused on the Democrats, Republicans are urging their party faithful to attend their caucuses as well this (Mon.) evening.

Barry Strang of the Dickinson County Republican Party says while they’re lacking a contest, that they’ll also be deciding some important issues…such as resolutions to be forwarded to county, district, state and national conventions. Strang says they’ll also be electing Dickinson County Republican Central Committee members at this (Mon.) evening’s caucus.

Republicans from throughout Dickinson county will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Spirit Lake campus of Iowa Lakes Community College.
