SL Woman Injured In Snowmobile Accident

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A Spirit Lake woman was seriously injured in a snowmobile accident Saturday evening on West Lake Okoboji.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says 25-year-old Cora Lynn Akin was operating a snowmobile about 600 yards off the State Pier when she struck an ice heave, throwing her off the machine.

Akin was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with a head injury and was transferred by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

A news release doesn’t say whether or not Akin was wearing a helmet.

Information on her condition wasn’t immediately available.

The mishap took place around 6:00 p.m. Saturday, just as the opening ceremonies for the Winter Games were about to get underway.
