Dickinson Supervisors Approve Church Agreement

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday approved a letter of agreement with the Spirit Lake Baptist Church for the conveyance of the church building and land on which it stands to the county. Some revisions have been made to the original agreement that still need to be approved by the church.

The original agreement introduced last week gave the county five years to move the building to a county-owned site. The new agreement drops that. Supervisors Wayne Northey and Mardi Allen expressed concern about the requirement, saying they didn’t want to obligate a future board.

Another revision to the original agreement has the church being included in the county’s insurance coverage.

The vote to approve the agreement was four-to-one with Supervisor Chair David Gottsche casting the no vote.
