November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A Laurens man was injured in a car/semi collision this (Wed.) morning at the North Y in Spencer.

The Iowa State Patrol was called to the scene just before 7:30 a.m.

Authorities say 43-year-old Dale Martin of Laurens was southbound on Highway 71 in a 2004 Dodge pickup when a semi tractor-trailer attempted to cross in front of Martin. Martin struck the right side of the semi, with both vehicles coming to rest on the roadway, partially blocking traffic.

Martin was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital with unknown injuries. The driver of the semi, 41-year-old Matthew Carstensen of Spencer, was injured but sought treatment on his own.

Damage to the pickup Martin was driving was estimated at 25-thousand dollars. The semi sustained an estimated 500-dollars in damage.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Spencer Police, Spencer Ambulance and the Fostoria Fire Department assisted on the scene.

An investigation into the crash continues.
