(Spirit Lake)– Four people were injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway nine east of Spirit Lake, or just west of the Jackson Y.
The State Patrol says an eastbound vehicle driven by 84-year-old Leslie Anderson of Jackson, Minnesota veered across the center-line and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle driven by 26-year-old Travis Huntoon of Terril.
The vehicle Anderson was driving came to rest in the middle of the road; Huntoon’s vehicle slid into the north ditch where it rolled onto its top.
Anderson was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with chest injuries. A passenger, 84-year-old Donna Anderson, was also taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare with knee and ankle injuries and a cut.
Huntoon and a passenger in his vehicle, 26-year-old Kelly Flint of Spencer, were also taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare. Huntoon sustained cuts and a concussion. He was pulled out of the vehicle by a passenger.
There was no word on the extent of Flint’s injuries.
3,500-dollars in damage was estimated to the vehicle Anderson was driving; damage to Huntoon’s vehicle was estimated at two-thousand dollars.
The mishap took place around 3:30 p.m. on Highway nine just east of 290th Avenue.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Spirit Lake Police Department, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Terril and Spirit Lake ambulances, Spirit Lake First Responders, Superior Fire and Rescue and the Iowa Department of Transportation.
It was snowing at the time of the mishap.
