(Spencer)– Charges are pending against a Hartley man in connection with a rollover west of Spencer Friday that left four people injured.
Clay county authorities say it took place just west of Spencer on County Road B-24 around 10:45 p.m.
They say 22-year-old Travis Tifft of Hartley was eastbound chasing another vehicle at a high rate of speed. Authorities say Tifft tried to pass a truck when he lost control and entered the south ditch, striking a utility pole. The vehicle rolled twice, ejecting Tifft and three passengers.
The wreckage was spotted by a Clay county deputy.
All four people were picked up by friends and taken to different hospitals. Tifft and two female passengers were taken to the Spencer Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries; Ryan Strubbe was taken to the Primghar Hospital where he was treated and released.
As part of their investigation, authorities determined alcohol was involved. No charges have been filed yet, but authorities say their investigation continues.
