Pure Fishing Announces Acquisition Of Major Manufacturer Of Fishing Line

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A major announcement from one of the lakes area’s largest employers.

Tom Bedell, Chairman of the Board of Spirit Lake-based Pure Fishing, announced today (Tuesday) they’re acquiring the fishing-related assets of Remington Arms, Company, Inc…including the popular Stren brand. The acquisition is effective today (Tuesday).

Bedell says Stren and Berkley have both been in the fishing line business since the 1950’s. He says the acquisition of Stren is huge for Pure Fishing’s efforts to build the world’s best fishing tackle company.

Stren was founded by the DuPont company. It’s headquarters in Madison, North Carolina are being relocated effective immediately to Spirit Lake. Bedell says it will allow Pure Fishing to expand not only its manufacturing lines, but will also allow for expansions in distribution and scheduling.

Bedell couldn’t be specific as to how many more jobs will be coming to Spirit Lake.

The acquisition of Stren is the latest in an impressive list of acquisitions Pure Fishing has made in recent years. They include Abu Garcia; the original baitcast reel; Mitchell, the world’s first spinning reel; Fenwick, inventor of graphite fishing rods; Johnson, among the first spincast reels; Spider, one of the first superlines; and SevenStrand, a longstanding leader and innovator in saltwater lines.

Bedell says the acquisitions have played a vital role in Pure Fishing’s philosophy to build on the core businesses that have been the founding technologies that built the tackle business.

Bedell says they’ll be able to accomodate the additional Stren operations at the Spirit Lake Pure Fishing plant without having to build on.
