Spirit Lake Home Heavily Damaged By Fire

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A house in Spirit Lake was heavily damaged by fire Sunday evening.

Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson says Spirit Lake firefighters were called to the Sarah Haisman residence at 708 21st Street shortly before 6:00 p.m.

Upon arriving Jorgenson says smoke and flames could be seen coming from the structure. He says the living room portion of the home was totally engulfed, and that the fire had burned through the floor in that area. Heavy fire, smoke and water damage was reported to the rest of the house.

Jorgenson says no one was home at the time. He believes the fire may have been burning already for quite some time before it was discovered by a neighbor who saw smoke coming from some attic vents and called authorities.

Jorgenson says the cause of the blaze is under investigation. The State Fire Marshall’s Office has been contacted for assistance.

No injuries were reported.

Spirit Lake firefighters were on the scene about two hours.

Jorgenson once again reminds residents to dig out around fire hydrants. Hydrants in some areas are literally buried under huge piles of snow.
