(Estherville)– The board of trustees of Iowa Lakes Community College had some good news for taxpayers at their meeting Tuesday.
They adopted a budget for the 2005 Fiscal Year that has a tax asking that’s slightly more than two and-a-half percent LESS than under the current budget.
College officials attribute the smaller tax asking to estimated balances in unemployment and insurance accounts.
The trustees adopted the budget following a public hearing.
In other business, March 16th was set as the date for a public hearing on bids for a new facility at the Emmetsburg campus to house the Motorcycle, Marine and Small Engine and Agriculture Programs; and they approved two “ACE” programs.
One will use infrastructure funds to help offset the cost of building a wind turbine to be used as a lab for the program which is to start this coming fall.
The other will apply the college’s Job Credits Allocation to the Criminal Justice/Computer Forensics program to purchase upgraded equipment. The partnerships established in the agreement are with local police and sheriff’s departments.
