McNulty Case Clear For Trial

November 22, 2014

(Jackson, Mn.)– The way has been paved for a rural Lakefield, Minnesota woman to stand trial in the murder of a Spirit Lake man.

A rule 20 evaluation report into the mental competency of 39-year-old Suzanne McNulty was completed on February 6th of this year. It found McNulty is, indeed competent to stand trial. Jackson County Attorney Robert O’Conner says a 10-day waiting period passed with no objections being filed to the report by either the defense or prosecution.

That resulted in Judge Linda Titus issuing an order on February 24th returning the matter back to the trial calendar for scheduling.

An omnibus hearing to contest the admissibility of evidence during the trial has been set for 1:00 p.m. March 18th in Jackson County District Court.

McNulty has been charged in the shooting death last year of 34-year-old Ervin Berg of Spirit Lake at a farmstead south of Lakefield.
