IGLMM Bd. Readies For Spring

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– Everyone’s thoughts are turning to spring these days. That’s also the case for the board of directors of the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum, who met Thursday.

Addressing the organization’s 1.7 million dollar debt was the main highlight of the session. The board was updated on various fundraising events planned for the upcoming season, including one August 8th consisting of a dinner, live entertainment and auction. Board member Al Maser says they hope to raise atleast 100-thousand dollars or more with that one event alone.

Jim Frost, the Maritime Museum’s Executive Director, reported that 99 memberships have been sold to the Maritime Museum…including three lifetime ones.

Mike McDonough, chairman of the Marketing Committee, reported they’re finalizing advertising and promotions for the upcoming season, and efforts are underway to update the Maritime Museum website.

There was more discussion on the gas dock proposal, but they decided to table the matter until this coming fall for further research.

The board approved a change to the lifetime membership policy. Anyone who donates a thousand dollars or more will receive benefits and will be able to choose how the gift is to be spent.

In other business, the board approved spending a thousand dollars for a year-end audit; authorized Frost to secure a five million dollar umbrella insurance coverage for park operations; decided to involve former board member David Berenstein in lining up concert acts for the upcoming season; and they heard an update on plans for the amusement park parking lot.

The next meeting is set for Monday, April 12th.
