Dickinson Co. Road Workers Look At Unionizing

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Another group of Dickinson county employees wants to unionize.

A petition has been filed with the Iowa Public Employment Relations Board by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 234 on behalf of all regular full-time and regular part-time employees of the Dickinson County Roads Department. The County Engineer and office clerical workers would be excluded from the bargaining unit.

A public hearing on the petition will be held before the Iowa Public Employment Relations Board at its meeting March 26th in Des Moines. An official notice states that the hearing will be held to gather evidence and arguments that will enable and assist the board in determining the make-up of a bargaining unit that would represent the employees.

This would be the second group of Dickinson county employees to unionize. Deputies and dispatchers in the Sheriff’s Office also have a collective bargaining unit.
