(Okoboji)– City officials in Okoboji think they may have finally found a site for a new city maintenance building that’s agreeable with everyone.
Original plans to construct the building in Spier Park drew considerable opposition. A second proposed site near McDonald’s didn’t work out due to poor soil conditions.
It was reported at Tuesday’s city council meeting an ad-hoc committee that’s been looking for a new site may have stumbled onto something. City Administrator Dennis Daly says they had contact with Mau Marine which is interested in trading property they own on Depot Street for city-owned land where the former city hall and current maintenance sheds are located. Daly says the next step is for the city and Mau to get separate appraisals done on the parcels. He says they’ll compare them and see what kind of deal may be possible.
Daly says they hope to get a site finalized soon so they can go out for bids. Time is getting to be crucial with the construction season quickly approaching.
