Arnolds Park City Council Votes To Bury Power Line

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park City Council Wednesday approved a proposal from Alliant Energy to bury an electrical transmission line that runs along the east side of the amusement park parking lot.

Burying the line is critical to plans by the Iowa Great Lakes Maritime Museum to rennovate and pave the parking lot.

The council voted three-to-nothing to adopt a resolution approving the project, which will cost the city 173,500-dollars.

City officials say burying the line will also enhance the Wannager Condominium Project which will be going up in the same area. City Administrator Ron Walker says the condo project will generate about 90-thousand dollars for the city’s Tax Increment Finance District, which will be used to help pay for the underground project.

In other business, the Arnolds Park City Council adopted a resolution to voluntarily annex an area to the south and southeast of the current city limits…south of 202nd Street; and they decided to obtain bids on a drainage project at the baseball diamond. The 73-thousand dollar project will consist in part of a “rain garden” and underground piping. A bidletting will be held in May.

Council members Jim Jensen and Jason Christensen were out of town and unable to attend Wednesday’s meeting.
