(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake and Lake Park Fire Departments were called to a grass fire Monday afternoon at Cayler Prairie between Spirit Lake and Lake Park.
Spirit Lake Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson says D-N-R crews apparently hit a rock with a mower, causing some sparks that set some grass on fire. Jorgenson says the fire quickly spread. It burned about 30 acres before firefighters could get it put out.
No structures were threatened, and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. They were there about an hour.
Jorgenson says the grass fire danger will remain high until we get some rain and the vegetation starts to green-up. In the meantime, he encourages people to refrain from burning.
Thunderstorms are in the forecast over the next several days.
