(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday held a public hearing on an addendum to the city’s Comprehensive Plan.
Shawn Arneson of the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission told the council the need to update the plan’s goals and objectives is another clear indicator of all the growth that’s taken place in the city. The council unanimously adopted the revisions following the hearing.
In other business the council set April 27th as the date for a public hearing on a proposal to expand a Tax Increment Finance District to include the East Gateway area; deferred action on a preliminary and a final plat for the Hawn Subdivision until council members have a change to review a development agreement; and they set April 27th as the date to consider plans and specifications and to accept bids on the 2004 utility improvement project. The work involves the relocation of water and sewer lines in the area of Ithaca and 19th Streets to make way for the courthouse project.
The council approved a request for diagonal on-street parking on Hill Avenue in front of the Discovery Day Care Center. It will result in about six additional parking spaces. The spaces will be constructed as part of the Hill Avenue South reconstruction project. Neil Slater, who owns the business with his wife Katie, made the request. He said he’s concerned a lack of parking in that area could get worse if the city should limit parking in the future on 22nd Street.
The council also voted to contribute 676 dollars to the Community Coalition for Rate Fairness which is contesting a rate increase Alliant Energy is proposing.
