SL Councilman Wants Better Communication With City Staff

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– A Spirit Lake city councilman says he’s tired of being left in the dark about certain incidents involving city employees.

Councilman Jerry Harbst says it isn’t his intention to micro-manage, but he’s tired of hearing about incidents involving city workers from the general public instead of city staff.

Fellow councilman Duane Yager agreed, saying it makes them (council members) out to be fools when they’re approached by the public about an incident involving city employees or equipment, and they don’t know anything about it.

City staff was directed to provide reports to council members when they feel it’s necessary.

On another communications matter, the council was receptive to a request to post minutes and agendas of council and committee meetings on the internet. Several other cities in the area are already doing that.
