(Jackson, Mn.)– Add Jackson to the list of counties in southern Minnesota that have banned burning until further notice.
Jackson county authorities say no burning permits will be issued until the ban is lifted.
Nobles county has also banned burning until further notice, along with several counties in south central and southeast Minnesota.
No bans have been implemented yet in northwest Iowa. But Spirit Lake Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson says they’ll be seriously looking into one if the dry conditions persist much longer.
Fire departments from throughout the region have been busy in recent days putting out numerous grass and field fires–many of them caused by controlled burns that got out of control. Atleast a couple are believed to have been the result of cigarettes being tossed out of car windows.
