(Spencer)– An Evansville, Iowa-based company Monday announced plans to construct a 15-thousand square foot facility in Spencer.
Midwest Sawdust will convert sawdust into wood pellets for use in wood pellet stoves.
The company currently produces sawdust for livestock bedding. It gets its waste wood from the Omega Cabinets facility in Waterloo.
In addition to a Production Manager, the company plans to hire seven to eight additional employees for its Spencer operations.
State and local assistance for the new facility is coming from the Spencer Jobs Trust, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Iowa Energy Center, city of Spencer, Corridor of Opportunity, and the Small Business Development Center.
The company plans to start grading work on the site immediately and hopes to start production sometime this summer.
