(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake school district hopes to guard against state cuts in next year’s budget.
Superintendent Tim Grieves Monday presented a budget that includes a 46 cent tax levy increase. He says the bump anticipates a fourth year of broken promises from the state legislature.
840-thousand dollars has been whacked from the Spirit Lake school district budget in the past three years. Grieves says the district has been fortunate in that no teachers have been let go yet.
The proposed tax levy next year at $10.98 per thousand dollars valuation would still be the lowest in the eight school Lakes athletic conference.
Spirit Lake also has a 51-cent Management Levy, a 33-cent Physical Plant and Equipment Levy, and a 70-cent Debt Levy.
