Public Meeting Scheduled On Elinor Bedell State Park Pedestrian Access

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Residents of the East Okoboji Beach area and those living near Elinor Bedell State Park just east of Spirit Lake are urged to attend a meeting later this month in Spirit Lake.

Ron Williams, a Park Ranger with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says they’ll be talking about opening a new pedestrian access to Elinor Bedell State Park.

Williams says they came up with the proposal after being contacted by residents of East Okoboji Beach who are upset over hikers trespassing on their property to get to the park.

The proposal would have the access coming from an old driveway that goes into the park. The problem is that the driveway is located on privately-owned land.

The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 21st in the Community Room of the Spirit Lake Public Library.
