Arrests Keep SLPD Busy

(Spirit Lake)– The last few days have been busy for Spirit Lake police.

Authorities say a traffic stop last Saturday resulted in the arrest of a Minnesota man for operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.

Police say 49-year-old Craig Louis Petersen of Dunnell, Minnesota was charged with operating while intoxicated…first offense; possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police say they pulled over a vehicle Petersen was driving shortly before 12:30 a.m. on 240th Avenue near Templar Park. Petersen allegedly advised the arresting officer his vehicle contained contraband. Officers recovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

At about 6:40 p.m. Monday, Spirit Lake police say they made contact with a male identified as 38-year-old David Lee Nuehring…address unknown…in an alley behind the post office. Authorities say Nuehring was visibly intoxicated and was subsequently arrested for public intoxication…third offense. A records check showed Nuehring was wanted in Arkansas on three felony warrants listing 14 charges including multiple counts of domestic battery, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and one count of endangering the welfare of a minor.

Nuehring was booked into the Dickinson county jail.

And Spirit Lake police arrested a Clay county man Wednesday night on an outstanding warrant.

28-year-old Ryan Patrick Hesse was arrested around 11:00 p.m. for failure to appear and failure to serve a sentence for OWI. A subsequent search of a vehicle turned up a substance alleged to be marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Hesse was transported to the Clay county jail. Additional charges of possession of a controlled substance…second offense; prohibited acts and possession of drug paraphernalia were filed against him.
