Terril Firefighters Battle Machine Shed Fire

November 22, 2014

(Terril)– Fire Sunday destroyed a portion of a machine shed and some equipment stored inside it at the Dewayne Sidles residence near Terril.

Fire Chief Tim Mathews says Terril firefighters were called to the scene three miles east of Terril on 340th Avenue around 3:00 p.m. Mathews says a portion of the structure was already engulfed and that the blaze had spread to a nearby grove and another shed. Mathews says just the bottom of the second shed was damaged.

Mathews says about a quarter of the machine shed, which was a converted cattle shed, was totally destroyed, along with some machinery inside it. A couple of trucks parked outside it were also heavily damaged.

A dollar estimate on the loss wasn’t immediately available.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were on the scene about two hours.

Mathews says the very strong wind and a lack of water made it very difficult to contain the blaze.

He believes the fire may have been caused by a tractor that was parked in the shed. Mathews says it had been used to plow a field earlier in the day.
