(Spirit Lake)– Two people were injured in a two-vehicle collision Monday at the intersection of Highways nine and 71 and Peoria Avenue in Spirit Lake.
Police say the mishap involved a 1991 Jeep truck driven by 32-year-old Kyle Tomlinson of Spirit Lake and a Regional Transit Authority bus driven by 69-year-old Ronald Niebrugge (nee’-bur-ghee) of Spirit Lake.
Tomlinson and Niebrugge were taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare.
Authorities say Tomlinson was westbound on the highway and was traveling through the intersection with Peoria Avenue in accordance with a green light. Police say the RTA bus was southbound on Peoria Avenue and entered the intersection against a red light, broadsiding the vehicle driven by Tomlinson.
Niebrugge was charged with failure to obey a traffic control device.
Two thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the vehicle driven by Tomlinson; the RTA bus sustained an estimated three thousand dollars in damage.
The mishap took place around 5:00 p.m. Monday.
