(Spencer)– Spencer residents may soon be paying more to have their garbage picked up.
The city council Monday unanimously adopted the first reading of an ordinance that requires a hike in Spencer’s solid waste collection rates.
The ordinance would mean a 15 percent across-the-board increase for both commercial and residential rates. For residents, the collection rate will go from $10.00 to $11.50 per month…the first rate hike since 1992.
The proposal also requires a change in rates for temporary dumpsters. The city will drop off and pick up a dumpster for $25. The user will then pay $17.25 each time the dumpster needs to be emptied.
The new rates will go in effect July 1st if the ordinance is adopted by the council.
A second reading on the proposed ordinance is scheduled for May 3rd.
