Things Getting Back To Normal At SLHS

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Officials still aren’t saying much about a threat that resulted in the evacuation of Spirit Lake High School Tuesday afternoon.

A news release issued by Superintendent Tim Grieves says the threat was related to the safety of students and had overtones to the tragedy at Columbine High School, of which Tuesday marked the anniversary.

Spirit Lake High School was evacuated at 2:41 p.m. and students and faculty were sent to the Middle School where they stayed until school dismissed for the day. A thorough search was made of the building by police and a bomb squad dog. Authorities say no explosive devices were found.

Classes resumed as usual this (Wed.) morning following a staff briefing, and Grieves says the day has been going good. He says the students have been very orderly, and that the absentee rate was about the same as it has been in recent days.

Grieves says the school and Police Department are continuing their investigation, but would say nothing further, including whether or not anyone has been taken into custody or if they have any suspects.
