Charges Filed Against Madelia, Mn. Teen In High Speed Chase

(Okoboji)– Charges have been filed against a Madelia, Minnesota teen in connection with a high speed chase late Tuesday night in Dickinson county.

Authorities say the pursuit started as the result of a gas drive-off from a convenience store. It started on Lakeshore Drive in Okoboji north of The Inn. It continued south on Lakeshore Drive, the went east on County Home Road and north on Highway 71 to the Highway nine junction in Spirit Lake…where authorities deployed stop sticks. The vehicle went over the sticks, and continued west on Highway nine toward Lake Park. From there the pursuit went north on 150th Avenue. The chase ended about 20 minutes after it started when the vehicle went into the ditch at the intersection of 150th Avenue and 110th Street northeast of Lake Park near the Minnesota state line.

The driver, identified as 17-year-old Jeffrey Scott Durheim of Madelia, Minnesota, was charged with felony eluding; operating while intoxicated, second offense; reckless driving; driving without a license and numerous other violations.

Durheim was transported to the Youth Emergency Services Detention Center in Cherokee.

The Okoboji Police Department was assisted by the Arnolds Park, Spirit Lake and Milford Police Departments; the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.
