(Wahpeton)– Major changes could be in store for a long-time lakes area restaurant and resort.
Greg Deman, new owner of Crescent Beach Resort, met Monday with the Wahpeton City Council regarding his concerns for the business and some possible options he may explore.
Deman told the council the operation, especially the restaurant part, isn’t cash flowing the way he thought it would when he purchased the business last year. Deman said he plans to open yet this season, but beyond that he says he’s exploring his options. One possibility, he said, may be to sell off the 22 resort units individually. Deman said a more “transient” clientele of the lakes area is resulting in the need for more security all the time, and that it’s eating into the bottom line. He says selling off the units to people he knows would solve that problem. Deman said proceeds from the sales could be used to extensively upgrade the restaurant.
Selling the units would require city approval since a zoning issue would be involved.
The council and Mayor Mike McDonough directed Deman to get a copy of the city’s ordinance prohibiting condominiums and to put together a more detailed proposal that could be worked out with the Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment and City Council.
