Director Of Lakeside Lab Resigns

November 22, 2014

(Wahpeton)– Some big changes at Lakeside Lab on West Lake Okoboji.

Dickinson County Extension Educator Cory Peterson has been named the facility’s Interim Director, replacing Arnold Van der Valk who is resigning from the post effective this Saturday, May 15th.

Peterson was appointed to the post by the Lakeside Laboratory Coordinating Committee created by the Board of Regents in 1993 to govern the facility. The committee includes provosts from the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa, along with a community representative and a staff member of the Board of Regents Office.

Under an agreement with the committee, the Dickinson County Extension Council and Iowa State University Extension will manage Lakeside Lab the next six months. During that time, a news release says they’ll assess the lab’s operations, fundraising and administrative plans.

Gregory Nichols, Executive Director of the Board of Regents, says the new management structure and planning efforts will ensure the laboratory continues to be a vital resource to the region and state.

Peterson wasn’t immediately available for comment.
