Crash Sends One Person To Hospital; Another To Jail

November 22, 2014

(Sioux Center)– A single-vehicle crash Wednesday near Sioux Center sent one person to the hospital and another to jail.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says 22-year-old Javier Lopez-Ramos of Worthington was driving a 1997 Ford Taurus westbound when he lost control. The vehicle went into the north ditch and struck a utility pole, bringing down some electrical wires which blocked the road for several hours.

A passenger, 28-year-old Cheryl Brown of Worthington, was taken by ambulance to the Sioux Center hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

No injuries were reported to Lopez-Ramos who was cited for operating without a valid driver’s license and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

Upon further investigation deputies determined Lopez-Ramos had allegedly been working at an egg processor in Sioux Center using a name and social security number that belonged to someone else. He was also charged with identity theft…a class “D” felony.
