Local Counties Added To Governor’s Disaster Declaration

November 22, 2014

(Des Moines)– Buena Vista, Clay and Palo Alto counties are among 37 more counties Governor Tom Vilsack Thursday declared as disaster areas as a result of recent severe storms.

The declaration makes those counties eligible to receive state equipment, personnel and other assistance to clean up.

Storms with heavy rain, hail and even tornadoes rolled through Iowa a week ago. The communities of Rolfe and Bradgate in Pocahontas and Humboldt counties took direct hits from tornadoes.

Rivers in many areas have been receding in recent days after reaching or exceeding flood stage.

The bad news is that more thunderstorms are in the forecast for the upcoming holiday weekend…along with the possibility for severe weather.
