(Spirit Lake)– Six new flags were added to Dickinson county’s Avenue of Flags during Monday’s Memorial Day ceremony in Spirit Lake.
New flags were dedicated in the memory of Cliff Carlson; Everett Dobson; Melvin Gangsted; Joe Gamble; Latham Tenny; and Earl Dean.
In addition to those new flags, two other special flags were also erected on the lawn of the Dickinson county courthouse Monday. They included an American flag that flew September 11th, 2001 over Kandahar Airbase, Afghanistan; and a state of Iowa flag that flew over the airbase at Camp Viper, Afghanistan (see photo).
The flags were presented by Jason Reed of Spirit Lake, a member of the National Guard who returned last fall from Iraq. Reed is the son of Don and Jean Reed of Spirit Lake.
