Funding Request For Ladder Truck Gets Cool Response From Dick. Co. Supervisors

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson county board of supervisors Tuesday head another request from the Spirit Lake Fire Department to contribute to the purchase of an aerial-pumper truck.

Fire Chief Wally Jorgenson requested the county contribute 10-thousand dollars a year over five years for the 540-thousand dollar truck, which he says would be used county-wide. Jorgenson said the truck is vital to preventing a catastrophic loss…siting all the development that’s taking place in the county. He says time is of the essence since interest rates are still favorable.

Jorgenson said the Fire Department is contributing 175-thousand dollars toward the purchase. He says they’ve worked out a loan agreement with a local bank for bridge financing to cover the rest of the expenditure for now.

The request got a cool response from supervisors. Supervisor Paul Johnson said the county’s budget is extremely tight and he said they’re determined to work with it as it is, saying they’ve adopted a “tough love” philosophy to the situation.

Jorgenson’s request was taken under advisement.
