(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake has been added to the list of cities the Iowa Utilities Board will hold hearings into a requested rate increase that’s been filed by Alliant Energy.
The hearing in Spirit Lake will be held June 10th at 5:00 p.m. at a place to be determined.
Spirit Lake was added to the list of cities after the I-U-B was flooded by requests to hold a hearing here. Prior to this, the closest hearing was scheduled for Mason City.
Alliant Energy is requesting a 16 percent rate increase. If approved in its entirety, Alliant Spokesman Ryan Stensland says the average bill for a residential customer would increase by $13.32 per month.
Stensland says the utility is looking to recoup atleast a portion of the 759 million dollars its invested recently in infrastructure…including the new 400 million dollar Emery Generating Station that just went into operation near Mason City.
