(Spencer)– Another form of assistance is being made available to residents in several northwest Iowa counties that have received federal disaster designations due to tornadoes, flooding and severe storms. Buena Vista, Clay, Kossuth and Palo Alto counties were added to the list Wednesday. Pocahontas was one of the original 14 counties that received the designation.
Anyone living in those counties who lost their job due to the weather is eligible to apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance through Iowa Workforce Development.
Claims need to be filed by July 6th. Benefits cover self-employed workers not usually entitled to unemployment benefits…including farmers.
Those interested in applying locally should stop by a Workforce Development Center in Storm Lake, Spencer, Algona or Emmetsburg.
Applicants need to provide proof of past earnings along with a copy of their most recent income tax form.
