November 22, 2014

(Primghar)– A Sheldon man has been sentenced to 35 years in jail after pleading guilty to burglary in the first degree…a class “B” felony; and sexual abuse in the third degree…a class “C” felony.

35-year-old Jeffrey Bryant Counter was sentenced to consecutive terms of not more than 25 years for the burglary charge and not more than 10 years on the sexual abuse charge.

The charges stem from incidents that took place in Sheldon on October 11th of last year that were investigated by the Sheldon Police Department, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.

O’Brien County Attorney Bruce Green says they were able to use DNA evidence collected from the victim, the victim’s residence, Counter and Counter’s apartment.

Counter will be transferred to the Iowa Medical Classification Center in Oakdale where he’ll serve his sentence.

Counter has been held in the O’Brien County Jail since his arrest on October 14th of last year.
