AP Council Approves Budget Amendment; Adopts Amended 28E Fire Agreement

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park city council Wednesday adopted a resolution to amend the city’s budget to reflect an additional 200-thousand dollars in expenditures. It includes 150-thousand dollars for the new lakes area fire boat. City officials say they decided to pay the full amount of the boat now. The city will be reimbursed by other entities that made contributions to the boat as they make their payments in the upcoming fiscal year. The council adopted the budget amendment following a public hearing that drew no comments.

In other business, the Arnolds Park city council approved an amendment to a 28E agreement that merged the Arnolds Park and Okoboji Fire Departments. The amended agreement reflects a shared ownership of equipment. On a related note, the council adopted a resolution of intent to sell Arnolds Park’s pumper truck to the city of Van Meter for 70-thousand dollars. A public hearing on the matter is set for 7:00 p.m. June 23rd.

The council approved the sale of city-owned right-of-way for 4,954-dollars to Del Sievers with the condition it be maintained as green space. Sievers had requested that stipulation be waived, siting liability concerns. But the council denied the request.

The Arnolds Park council also approved a proposal to extend a water main to a new campground. The city’s subdivision ordinance requires six inch mains be installed at the developer’s expense. Siting the potential for more development in that area in the future, it was decided to go with an eight inch main instead, with the city to pick up the cost of the additional two inches. The motion passed four-to-one with Mike Koppert casting the lone no vote.

The council also went into a closed session to discuss a possible real estate transaction for a new maintenance building.
