(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park War Memorial was officially re-dedicated in a ceremony Sunday afternoon.
The memorial has been relocated from its original location at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Highway 71 in front of the Okoboji Middle School. It had to be relocated to make room for the highway project.
John Tonsfeldt, Dickinson County Veterans Affairs Commissioner, was the keynote speaker. He talked about previous conflicts the U-S has been involved in, as well as the current war against terrorism, which he says easily falls into the realm of World War Three.
After thanking those that made the new monument possible, Mayor Mike Mitchell officially accepted the monument of behalf of the city.
In addition to the original names of Arnolds Park service men who lost their lives in World Wars One and Two, the memorial includes a new name…that of Terry Reed of Arnolds Park, who lost his life in the Vietnam War.
The newly relocated and expanded War Memorial is located on the northeast side of Okoboji Cemetery at the corner of Bascom Street and Highway 71 in Arnolds Park.
