(Okoboji)– Okoboji residents are being advised to use extra caution when outdoors and to keep a close eye on children and pets.
That’s after a 20-year-old woman was attacked Tuesday evening by what authorities say was a gray fox.
It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Nichols Avenue in Okoboji north of the Inn.
The woman, who tried to fight off the attack, was treated for an injured hand.
Some neighbors in the area reportedly saw the animal attack and kill some pheasants recently.
Anyone who sees an animal resembling a gray fox should leave it alone and contact authorities immediately.
The D-N-R believes the animal may be sick or possibly rabid.
