Two Children Injured In Go-Cart Accident In East Okoboji Beach Area

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Two children were injured Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Martin Drive and Teresa Avenue in the East Okoboji Beach Area east of Spirit Lake.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says a go-cart driven by a nine-year-old child from Sioux City was turning left onto Martin Drive when it collided with a 1996 Jeep driven by 33-year-old Diana Vasquez of Estherville.

The nine-year-old and his six-year-old passenger were transported by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare. There’s no word on the extent of their injuries. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing their names.

Neither child was wearing a helmet.

Vasquez was cited for failure to have insurance while being involved in an accident.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Spirit Lake Police Department, Spirit Lake First Responders and Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance.

Authorities remind individuals who are operating go-carts, four-wheelers and similar vehicles on private property to wear protective gear and pay special attention and caution to the area in which you are operating.
