(Okoboji)– An insecticide used to eradicate spiders is being ruled as the likely cause of death of 23 canadian geese found dead last month on East Lake Okoboji near Chalstrom Beach in Okoboji.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says tests by a National Wildlife Lab confirmed the geese were killed after they ate the insecticide.
Officials say the insecticide had been sprayed onto some docks to kill spiders. The geese apparently ingested the chemical as they were feeding in the lake.
