Spencer P & Z Approves Preliminary Plat For Menard’s

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– Spencer’s Planning and Zoning Commission Wednesday approved a preliminary plat for an 80-acre subdivision on the city’s south side that will include a new Menard’s store.

City Manager Dean Torresen tells KUOO news the development will consist of 80 acres and 25 lots…along with a larger one that will include the Menards store itself. He says it will sit back about 300 feet off Highway 71.

Torresen says the P & Z will act on the final plat at its next meeting August 11th. The matter will go to the Spencer city council at their meeting August 16th.

Torresen says a developer’s agreement is also needed before the project gets underway.

As part of the project, Torresen says the city and state will redesign Highway 71 in that area at an estimated cost of four million dollars. The cost will be split between the city and state. Torresen says a bidletting would probably be held in January with completion in September of 2005.

He says Menards still plans to start moving dirt this September with construction over the winter and into next spring and summer. Torresen says their goal is to have the store open by September 1st of next year.
