(Sioux City)– An out-of-court settlement has been reached in a lawsuit between the city of Spirit Lake and Larry Moorehead and Doug Ricke…two former police officers.
Moorehead and Ricke sued the city, Police Chief Jon Martyr and Mayor Eric Nielsen claiming they were fired in retaliation for their involvement in an investigation of a former Police Chief.
Moorehead resigned after he was demoted as Captain in May, 2002. Ricke was terminated on June 14th, 2002 after refusing to withdraw a grievance he filed with the city concerning alleged violations by the former Police Chief.
Siting confidentiality agreements, attorneys in the case aren’t disclosing terms of the settlement. Court documents state both sides will pay their own court costs and attorney fees.
The case was supposed to go to trial August 5th in U-S District Court in Sioux City after having been continued several times previously.
