(Spirit Lake)– Tuesday’s Spirit Lake city council meeting was very routine in nature.
The council held a public hearing on the construction of 41st Street…or county home road from Highway 71 to 235th Avenue. The hearing drew no written or oral comments. The council then awarded a bid of 132,597-dollars to extend infrastructure along the street, with the city doing the work. The engineer’s estimate was 302,864-dollars with someone else doing the work.
In other business the council:
* approved the appointments of Jona Forbes and Linda Hill to the Low Rent Housing Agency;
*Approved the appointment of Steve Anderson to a vacancy on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission;
* adopted an agreement with RIDES for the 2005 fiscal year at a cost of 10-thousand dollars;
* Approved the payment of 6,500-dollars to the Spirit Lake Fire Department to be put toward the purchase of an aerial truck;
* Approved a road maintenance agreement with the county for 235th Avenue so as not to create an island for the annexation of the Dean Stover property;
* Approved the transfer of nearly 807-thousand dollars from the Lantis Account to the Hill Avenue Project. The company had planned to build an apartment complex adjacent to Well Life, but attempts to contact the company about the future of the proposed project have been unsuccessful.The city had been setting aside money to assist in the Lantis project.
* Approved the final pay estimate and retainage for the trail improvement project amounting to 26,549-dollars;
* and they approved a benefits renewal plan for city employees. It includes a 2.23 percent increase in premiums over last year.
