(Spirit Lake)– Some newly established scholarships at Iowa Lakes Community College have ties to the lakes area.
One of them honors Dr. Aileen Schacherer, who retired in late June as Director of the Spirit Lake Campus of ILCC. The scholarship is intended for students at the Spirit Lake Campus that show financial need, yet do not qualify for federal financial assistance. Applicants must have completed one semester at Iowa Lakes enrolled for a minimum of six credits and be currently enrolled at the Iowa Lakes Spirit Lake Campus for a minimum of six credits. Anyone interested in donating to the scholarship fund should contact the college’s Institutional Advancement/Foundations Office at (712) 362-0491.
The other scholarship is for Iowa Lakes’ Massage Therapy Program. It was established by Jerry Jones of Spirit Lake in memory of his wife, Cristina. To be eligible for the Cristina Jones Memorial Scholarship, applicants must possess a three-point-oh grade point average or aboe, exhibit sound moral character, possess positive energy and demonstrate financial need. The applicant’s personal essay must include why they are entering the program and their belief on the benefits of massage therapy.
