Okoboji Awards Engineering Contract On Maintenance/Fire/Police Building

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– The construction of a new maintenance/fire/police building in Okoboji came a step closer to reality at Tuesday’s city council meeting.

The council awarded an engineering contract on the project to Beck Engineering of Spirit Lake for 92,500-dollars for the first 500-thousand dollars in building cost with the second 500-thousand being seven percent of total construction costs, for a maximum of about 122-thousand dollars.

City Administrator Dennis Daly says the next step is to get the contract signed for the real estate. The building will be constructed on 1.7 acres of land on Depot Street west of Tweeter’s. The land is currently owned by Mau Marine. The city is swapping property on which the former Okoboji city hall and current maintenance facility stands to Mau in exchange for the Depot Street property.

Daly says some site work will get underway yet this fall, with construction next spring and summer. Completion is slated for about a year or so from now.
